I read with extreme concern the SCRD’s plans to drill a test well into the Gibsons Aquifer (“SCRD looks to Gibsons Aquifer for groundwater,” April 27).
If the SCRD had shown the foresight years ago to develop a long-term water resource strategy and implement successful water metering, which their municipal neighbours in Gibsons did, they would not be threatening to plunder the Gibsons Aquifer today.
If the SCRD wants to “temporarily” draw down the aquifer for 15 to 20 years, I suggest the good citizens of Sechelt and the SCRD “temporarily” increase their water conservation efforts for the same period. British Columbians are among the highest residential water users per capita in Canada.
