Keep talking about Burnco

Letters

Editor:

In this week of diesel oil spills, high winds, shoreline damage and grounded ships, I wish to thank Ian Thomson for keeping the controversial Burnco Howe Sound mine proposal in the news (“Allow Burnco mine,” Letters, Oct. 21).

However, Mr. Thomson’s dismissing the obvious dangers of mining and shipping in Howe Sound does not serve his mining colleagues at Burnco well. Stating that the McNab Creek gravels “are necessary for Vancouver” is just not true, and even Burnco does not go down that path. The proposed mine is unnecessary. One hundred years of industrial abuse in Howe Sound is no excuse for more. It’s 2016.

So keep those letters coming, Mr. Thomson! The many opponents of the proposed mine will appreciate them.
