As a resident of lovely Madeira Park I strongly disagree with renaming Madeira Park to salalus.
Without Mr. Joe Gonsalves’ commitment, time and effort invested over 116 years ago, this gem would not be here today as we love it. It was named after his birthplace, the Portuguese island of Madeira.
It’s a lovely name. Why change it?
I am OK leaving a reference to the original native name, perhaps in brackets, but NOT like the wasted highway signs representing it as the lead name with Madeira Park in brackets.
