Just another era

Letters

Editor:

Charles and Diana Burns (“Just another day,” Letters, June 23) with their Liberal bashing seem to be short on memory. Think back to the glory days of NDP Premier Glen Clark when he thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and spend $450 million on the FastCat Ferries – going full steam ahead in spite of the advice of Australia’s Holyman Ltd. recommendation that Premier Clark lease one from down under before the NDP went down under.

The best advice to offer today is to give up on the ferry system and support the tolled bridge link. No government has excelled at operating this method of connecting all coastal communities, including Vancouver Island.

The federal government with private money constructed the tolled Confederation Bridge to P.E.I. The Pacific side of Canada has tolerated this lack of access for far too long and it is time to get Ottawa’s attention to the imbalance in funding between the Atlantic and Pacific.
