It certainly is a political competition

Editor: I have to agree with the letter from John Weston that you published on March 15 - it is a competition getting money for the riding. That's the way politics works; always has been and always will be.

I have to agree with the letter from John Weston that you published on March 15 - it is a competition getting money for the riding. That's the way politics works; always has been and always will be. It's just that most politicians aren't as open about saying it as Weston.

It's sometimes called political patronage (in the U.S. pork barreling), and it means you vote for the winning party or you don't get the spoils. If you didn't vote in a government member in your riding, you are last on the list to get government money or services, and your views will not be listened to in Parliament.

Weston has given us a civics lesson and is reminding us to remember that in the next election. Thanks for being open and honest, John Weston, and we will remember your comments.
