As a resident and taxpayer in the Town of Gibsons, I have attended many council meetings and also Gospel Rock meetings.
I have spent this time with the intent of listening and learning to better understand the direction our council will take us in the future. It also allows me the opportunity to participate at council meetings, sometimes offering suggestions when I feel alternate opinions need to be discussed.
This was the case with a new development on Shaw Road when the previous council (three of whom are now on the current council) voted unanimously to allow a lot zoned for 12 units to be increased to a 20-plus unit development. It was my opinion at the time this was too high a unit density for this neighbourhood, after visiting this weekend, my concerns were confirmed. Check this development out for yourself; this may be the future for Gibsons.
At the April 17 council meeting, on the subject of the Gospel Rock development Coun. Dan Bouman offered to Gibsons residents official community plan alternatives; the information he presented at council I found very informative. It would seem that three of our councillors are in favour of the Gospel Rock waterfront being designated green space with some building allowed, whilst two of our councillors would prefer the waterfront be designated as a fragile environmental area, and be protected as such.
Please note that the density zoning development on Shaw Road was changed despite opposition. I wish to thank the two lone councillors for offering this alternative and keeping us informed.
