Editor:
Bravo to Mike Lane for his letter to Mark Collins (“False ferry solutions,” May 25) and his willingness to beat his head against the brick wall that resolutely surrounds BC Ferries’ senior management and insulates them so completely from the real world of what their customers actually think.
My guess is that if Mr. Collins actually reads Mr. Lane’s letter he will not stoop to bother with a reply or he will pass it on to one of the corporation’s PR flacks to issue the standard “mea culpa” of regret full of the usual meaningless platitudes so beloved of customer contact departments.
The fact is that we get the ferry service BC Ferries thinks we should have, not the service that would best serve our needs.
The Band-Aid solutions referred to are just that and do nothing to solve the long-term problems of the Horseshoe Bay-Langdale run. These are: not enough sailings for the traffic volume, inability to unload and load a ferry in the schedule time allotted, and the parking space available at both terminals.
Are there any permanent solutions in sight? No, and no indication that there might be some thought being given to the issues mentioned.
We live in hope but really in despair.
