I appreciate Harold Foster's concern for the follow up arising from my participation in the Fisheries roundtable in July: "just another photo op."
Like other participants, I participated in order to listen to the members' concerns and to help them come up with a plan. The approach I proposed to consolidate people, groups and ideas was to support a long-term plan for the fisheries that would embrace economic development, jobs, biodiversity, fisheries, and other economic and environmental interests.
I salute theSea to Sky Fisheries roundtable members who keep working together and who helped get concrete measurable results in the past. For the future, they have assembled an application for their next project.
I understand the members have sent their application to the Department of Fisheries for funding under the Recreational Habitat Partnership Program, a program, whose creation I supported in the formulation of the 2013 federal budget. I have added my personal recommendation in support of their application.
This is a good example of community-interested people trying to make good public policy by maximizing common ground.
