Ignoring young families

Letters

Editor:

At the Aug. 2 District of Sechelt committee of the whole meeting, an age-friendly community plan was scheduled to be discussed to “make Sechelt even more friendly for people of all ages.”

Who is running this study and recommendations? A diverse group of community ages? No, the Sunshine Coast Seniors Planning Table.

The report references “young” people 13 times. It references “seniors” 192 times. And “older” 66 times. “Family” is referenced 18 times and “families” just six times.

The employment section only makes recommendations for “older adults.”

Why is this mayor and council ignoring the young families, employment and housing issues that have already been identified in the Sechelt Satisfaction Survey, that was completed by community members of all ages?
