Hostages held for ransom

Transportation Minister Todd Stone: Never in 23 years have we seen such terrible service from the BC Ferries Langdale run as on this Victoria Day long weekend.

Transportation Minister Todd Stone:

Never in 23 years have we seen such terrible service from the BC Ferries Langdale run as on this Victoria Day long weekend.

To travel from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay this holiday weekend averaged a one-sailing wait – to travel a distance of about 12 kilometres.

The car and driver arriving for the 10:45 a.m. scheduled sailing on Tuesday, May 24 arrived in Horseshoe Bay at 1:35 p.m. Traffic lined up the big hill on the Langdale side faced a two-sailing wait. This is after the holiday Monday.

Reserve, you say. No luck! Long delay on telephone lines and the web page cannot answer all questions needed to reserve.

Sunshine Coast taxpayers are being held for ransom by your policies.

Reducing the number of sailings to increase overload capacities forces taxpayers to pay reservation fees and increase BC Ferries’ profits – this while we all crowd into parking lots 90 minutes before sailings.

The B.C. Ferry Authority created under this Victoria administration is a joke.

We deserve a road or bridge to eliminate an aging ferry fleet and a corporation that is paid double by hard-working Sunshine Coast taxpayers and government grants.

Enough is enough! Resign, Mr. Stone, or fire the management of B.C. Ferry Authority.
