Want another good reason to live in a small community?
Last Sunday, many of us saw or participated in a wonderful, inclusive musical event.
The usual November concert held by Musicmakers’ Lynne Dickson was enhanced by a new choir – one that she originally called “choir for the terrified,” in hopes of encouraging “wannabe” singers who had always feared joining a group. Well, she ended up with a bunch of those folks, but she also attracted a whole busload of keen elders from Shorncliffe care facility, who faithfully turned up to practise each week.
These folks had been warming up their vocal chords earlier by visits from Lynne’s husband Reg, who regularly plays and sings all the old songs for the residents.
It was such a heartwarming sight to watch the elders singing up a storm of gospel tunes – their faces were bright and happy, their caregivers right there to support them, wheel them into place and sing with them. The audience was filled to overflowing with family and friends who clapped and sang along with the choirs.
Thanks, Lynne and Reg, for paying it forward and giving special meaning to the lives of so many folks on the Sunshine Coast.
