Healthy change, yes

Re: “George wins final council vote,” Aug. 4.

You quote Klaus Fuerniss as saying “there are some who are not happy with change.”

His statement attempts to dismiss the many who care passionately about Gibsons and have thought deeply in speaking about their concerns with key aspects of this waterfront condo/hotel development.

He is also quoted: “My team and I have been very careful to find ways to minimize the impact on the aquifer.”

If this were truly the case The George Condo and Hotel complex would have “minimized the impact” to the aquifer by building a smaller structure, and completely eliminated any risk by building it elsewhere rather than in the location where the aquifer is most vulnerable.

This is our drinking water! Our award-winning drinking water! Is this project really worth any risk to our aquifer?

Really?

It is a reckless deal and it is why there are so many strong opponents to The George as proposed.

Positive, healthy, change? Bring it on! There are many who would be thrilled and eager to support a progressive and visionary project.

Sadly The George isn’t it.
