The misleading headline “Transit expansion agreement held up” on page 4 of your May 26 edition created the impression that SCRD directors had blocked the transit plan, spreading confusion among many readers.
In fact, your reporter’s first paragraph stated clearly that the directors were to take a “second look” at the plan at their May 25 meeting, presumably too late for your deadline.
Unfortunately, emphasis on opposition to the plan voiced by some directors on May 18 appeared to validate the erroneous headline.
You had to read on to discover that there were other, strong voices in favour of the plan, and that council staff were urging that it be adopted, which in fact it was.
Given the time factor, Sean Eckford’s reporting cannot be faulted. It was the headline that caused the trouble.
