Hands off DL 1313

Re: “Dozens show to protect DL 1313,” Jan. 19.

It’s not as if there aren’t other cutblocks that could be sacrificed to the logging industry, so why the big push to decimate DL 1313? From the many protests that have been launched against clear-cutting this prime, much loved and used section of coastal forest, it is clearly an area that many Coast residents use and hold dear: dog walkers, mushroom collectors, birders, naturalists, and those with concerns (should be all of us) about keeping our source of water uncontaminated by industrial activity. Equestrians, who consider it one of the most important rides on the Sunshine Coast, are one of the biggest users. Take Reed Road up the hill and go through DL 1313 and into Roberts Creek and back.

With the increasing numbers of families looking to relocate to the Coast due to the astronomical costs of housing in Vancouver, we need to look ahead and preserve this forest against destruction and redevelopment as housing. I urge the provincial government to step in and remove DL 1313 from imminent destruction, and designate another, perhaps less accessible block of forest for the use of logging interests.
