Grateful to council

Re: “School Road project clears third reading,” Nov. 22.

I want to express my gratitude to the Gibsons council members for a courageous, difficult, and necessary decision to proceed with the plan to build 40 units of supportive housing on School Road.

Writing this from the cozy dining room of my warm, secure home on Abbs Road, I am imagining the deep sense of relief and belonging that our new neighbours will have once they have moved in to their modest, warm and secure homes. We all deserve this basic human right.

Our neighbourhoods (including schools and school children) are better places when we show more humanity and compassion for the most vulnerable members of our community.

Thank you, council, for respectfully listening to concerns on all sides, and for being an integral part of providing homes for 40 deserving individuals. I hope that everyone in the community will move forward constructively and welcome our new neighbours.
