Gardens need water

Letters

Editor:

Four out of five neighbours, including us, have added garden beds, had soil and mulch delivered, are hunting the Coast for seedlings and the hardware stores for soaker hoses, sprinkler systems and water timers. I think it’s fantastic. In this time, we all want to be more self-sufficient, and since we have the time and it’s spring, a garden is the obvious solution to being stuck at home and inside.

All good until we have Stage 4 water restrictions as in three out of the past four years. We need a solution to our recurring domestic water shortage, which is a lack of infrastructure and political will and not water. Maybe we should all build cisterns while we wait for another study.
