Gambier hospitality

Letters

Editor:

A group of us Sunshine Coast women, mostly seniors, travelled to Gambier Island two weeks ago intent on hiking to Gambier Lake. Armed with maps and directions from the net and information centres, we were confident we would be swimming in the lake that day. After many hours of walking and backtracking, and puzzling over non-existent and confusing signage, we admitted defeat and trudged back to the dock for the ferry back to Langdale. On the way there we met a friendly local, Kathy, who listened sympathetically to our story.

We assured her we were determined and we would be back!

Kathy went home and told her husband Morgan of our plight. They decided to rectify the situation.

Two weeks later our same group again travelled to Gambier, sure this time we would find the lake. Much to our delight, we found new clear signs and arrows which led us to the lake. We frolicked and swam and splashed to our hearts’ content in beautiful Gambier Lake. Thank you, Kathy and Morgan!
