Re: “Gibsons awards first round of grants for 2018,” June 8.
Please note that the $1,500 Town of Gibsons grant to the Gibsons Public Art Gallery has nothing to do with repairs to an art collection! This grant will help the Gallery host a series of free workshops to teach community members how to approach the repair of their own broken household objects. The “art” here is the fine art of repair. This project, in collaboration with the Sunshine Coast Repair Cafe program and the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation, will share the introductory skills of basic repair craft, with the goal of redirecting the endless flow of broken consumer goods away from our community landfill. Workshops will take place this coming fall and winter, with dates to be announced in the next few months.
