Ferry changes overdue

Letters

Editor:

BC Ferries: routinely very late, even on weekdays in autumn; ferries breaking down, cancelled; and adding insult to injury, no money for new vessels but money to build a mall at Langdale and an employee parking lot.

Some of the solutions are obvious: new vessels, leasing other vessels until the new ones are ready; more sailings, differential pricing for all sailings, with popular ones more expensive and unpopular less; reservations at no extra cost the routine, not the exception; digital boarding passes, scanning in cars and passengers as at theatres and airports; an efficiency expert to look at loading and unloading times.

BC Ferries’ Sunshine Coast operation is poorly run and has been for a long time. It is more than time for those responsible to resign or be dismissed. And please, no golden handshakes for those responsible. It is time for substantive change, not promises and limp excuses.
