Ferries go extra mile

Letters

Editor:

A family in Merville (north of Comox) donated two boys’ bikes for the Syrian refugee family that Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre is sponsoring. The challenge – to get them to Sechelt.

Employees at BC Ferries and the Powell River Chamber of Commerce stepped up to the plate. Ferries do not normally take “unaccompanied” cargo but employees on two ferries and at four terminals coordinated their efforts and moved the bikes to Earls Cove.

We are quick to criticize BC Ferries for the poor service, but we should remember that the problems are all in Victoria. The “front line” employees do a great job, but often bear the brunt of our frustration and anger when they are really not responsible.

Two young boys will be very happy that these volunteers went the extra mile.
