Dear ProjectSPIDER class:
Re: Unreasonable to charge children as adults, Dec. 3 letters
Thank you for taking the time to write regarding the charges for students on BC Ferries. We are happy to let you know that BC Ferries does offer a program administered by School District No. 46 (SD46) that allows southern Sunshine Coast youth residents to receive a passenger fare discount when travelling for the purpose of school-related events. The travel vouchers are available through SD46, and when combined with the BC Resident Assistance Program for students, allow free passenger travel for youth residents up to 18 years of age for school events.
Our current fare structure in relation to age thresholds is consistent with other transportation providers such as Pacific Coach Lines and Black Ball Ferry Line. Please contact SD46 to inquire and take advantage of the student travel fare discount program for future school trips aboard BC Ferries.
