(An open letter to BC Ferries CEO Mark Collins)
Dear Sir:
I am appalled by your recent advertisements in Coast Reporter, where you boast about improved time-keeping on the Langdale-Horseshoe Bay run.
Any improvement has been a result of “relaxing” the schedule. It used to take 60 minutes to turn a vessel around -– that may never happen again! Even though we are still in the off-season, I am getting frequent emails telling me you cannot meet the relaxed schedule.
Last year you “solved” the Langdale parking problem by increasing the fees. However, even though we are still in the off-season, I am getting emails telling me that the lot is full. What can we expect in the summer?
You plan to spend several million dollars improving the Langdale terminal. No doubt when you have finished, it will be a very pleasant place to wait three to five hours for a ferry!
Your predecessor gave away the two fast-cats. They could have operated as slow-cats on the Langdale-Horseshoe Bay run, and solved all your problems.
The solution to all the problems is to operate two ferries, one leaving each end every hour. Stop wasting our money on all your other Band-Aid solutions.
