After a long day of travelling and driving through a storm on Thursday, Jan. 14, we were happy to be on the 7:25 p.m. ferry heading home. Until, of course, one of the dreaded mechanical failures happened and the ramp wouldn't come down to let us off. It was confusing, frustrating and depressing, until the fabulous ferry workers stepped in.

At 11 p.m., when we finally drove off the ferry, all I could think about was how wonderfully the crew handled the situation. Their graciousness and courtesy were amazing. The captain gave us frequent updates, the cafeteria staff worked tirelessly to provide us with free food and beverages, and the chief steward offered constant assistance to accommodate everyone's travel needs.

Then there was the maintenance crew, who came by water taxi from Horseshoe Bay during an incredible storm to fix the ramp. And the management people who co-ordinate and authorize the handling of these glitches also did an outstanding job.

We all get frustrated with rising ferry costs and late sailings, but please remember it's not the fault of the workers who operate our boats and terminals. It's their job to make our trip safe and enjoyable, and the Langdale crew excels at this.

Thank you all! Bring on the Olympic tourists - we're ready!
