I was surprised recently to discover that Pet Valu was opening a large store in Trail Bay Centre.
I do not own any pets and therefore have no allegiance to any of the existing stores that cater to the pet market, but I have to ask: Has there been a proliferation in pets in the Sechelt area that would motivate Pet Valu to set up shop in our small village?
I do not wish to be prejudiced about Pet Valu’s motives or intentions in coming to Sechelt, but hope there will be enough customer loyalty to the existing pet supply stores for these smaller family-owned businesses to maintain a healthy market share. It’s difficult enough to keep a business alive in our small community without the added challenge of a large chain competitor.
