I am noticing people so frightened about money that they are losing perspective in this time of COVID-19. An economy is just a society’s agreement of how to distribute wealth. If a society agrees that universal basic income and paid sick leave are a good thing, then workers can afford to self-isolate when sick and help stop the spread of the virus. The economy only trumps public health if society thinks it should; like when a society as a whole does not value the lives of essential workers. This is not a matter of the “economy” versus the virus. This is a matter of choices we make.
