Early electioneering

I find it interesting that the group of councillors that has been governing our town of Gibsons for a little over three years now are suddenly interested in the community’s input. Yes, it is true! They are having public dialogues to engage us, when during their tenure there were no such events. All through the George approval process, the Public Market process, no opportunity to have dialogues, but now both pet projects are approved they are opening the door to listen to us.

Do you really think they are listening? Could this be election campaigning? What we are seeing now is not what we got for the past three years.

I attended a number of council meetings over the last three years and never was there any interest in listening to us while approving the biggest projects that have ever faced our town. They promised us in the last election that they would negotiate the height of the George but voted for it without discussion or any public dialogues, they gave away our assets to the developer without dialogue, they risked our aquifer without our input and they gave away our park fund without asking for dialogue.

But, that was yesterday’s news, you may say! I say, electorate, they are asking for your vote and campaigning under the guise of wanting to converse with us. Meanwhile any would-be new candidates are not given this platform.

Do not be fooled, electorate, get engaged, the election season is upon us.
