I would like to respond to Art Devlin's letter regarding DriveABLE (Coast Reporter, Feb. 17).

As someone who is approaching my middle age, I sympathize with the predicament that Devlin now finds himself in. It is not very easy to get around here on the Coast without a car. Add to that, the mobility issues that many seniors face, and you have a real problem.

That being said, is anyone really qualified to judge their own driving ability? Rolling stops and the failure to do shoulder checks are a sign that the individual's driving is not up to par. If you can't turn your head to look behind you, you shouldn't be driving.

As we age, we will lose the ability to do many things, and driving may be one of those for many of us. My advice is to be proactive and think about what changes you need to make to minimize the impact of the loss of the driver's licence on your life.

It's wonderful that [MLA] Nicholas [Simons] was able to use his influence to make it easier for Coast residents to be locally tested.
