It is alarming to read a recent publication by Postmedia regarding internal reports leaked from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control revealing that health authorities in B.C. are only releasing a fraction of their available COVID-19 information to the public.

From the outset of this pandemic, it has become abundantly clear that the more transparent we are about this disaster, the greater the chances of success in returning to a more normal life sooner rather than later. Yet B.C. apparently does not release nearly the detailed information that we see in other provinces.

It is now up to our elected government reps to insist that we all have the full reports on neighbourhood-level case and vaccination data, as well as breakdowns by age, income and ethnicity plus the rationale behind relaxing existing restrictions as we move out of this pandemic. Continued trust in our health officials is contingent on such transparency if we are to make the best decisions to remain safe.
