Dive-bombing seagulls

Letters

Editor:

Seagulls on the Coast seem much more aggressive – some dive-bombing pedestrians. The issue, however, is whether this behaviour is considered a nuisance or potentially injurious. A quick online search will establish that serious injuries do occur.

If the Coast finds itself with a growing number of serious encounters, the question will be, what is to be done about it?

Dive-bombing seagulls don’t just swoop in close and then let it go at that. They have been known to physically attack, beak first, causing serious head injuries. Why be surprised by that when a seagull can weigh up to 1.81 kg (nearly four pounds) and it’s flying in at your favourite head like a lawn dart!
