Disaster for the area

Letters

Editor:

Although I do not live in Gibsons or Elphinstone, I do drive and ride my bicycle down Pratt Road often and am concerned about the proposed use of this road to carry traffic while a new development is being built (Gospel Rock), and also of access to the new development relying solely on going through this corridor, using Pratt Road.

The road is already busy enough; with added heavy vehicles daily and incessantly using this road as sole access to build the development, it’s going to be a disaster for the area. The development will rob all of us – Gibsons, Elphinstone, and the rest of the Coast who use that area – from the relative safety of travel there. It will be a clogged road, a nightmare for all kinds of traffic: vehicle and bicycle and even foot traffic. Emergency vehicles will be thwarted in their rescue attempts. Even one death or injury attributable to this fiasco is too much.

Before granting this development any permits, at the very least, solve this one problem that the development is creating and build an access road through the Town of Gibsons. The developer, who stands to gain the most money, should pay to mitigate the damage his development is going to wreak on the community.
