I would like to comment on your question of the week, Are you in favour of the VisionQuest facility on Pratt Road?
Although I think the question is timely, I think the wording is very misleading. With that particular wording, it would be wise for me to vote yes if I live in the areas that have already rejected the facility in their neighbourhood. These would be the citizens of Roberts Creek, Davis Bay and Sechelt. Wouldn't this help ensure that this debate stays clear of their areas? After all, they already rejected a recovery house without the fanfare that the area E residents have had to endure. Is there some kind of prejudice against our neighbourhood? Perhaps it has to do with the defective gene that Cathie Roy alludes to (Coast Reporter, June 5).
Personally, I just want more information and for the VisionQuest group to abide by the bylaw rules. When an organization is sneaking around building without permits and answering questions politician style, avoiding the issue being queried, this creates suspicion. There are a lot of teenagers at my house on a regular basis as well as my students from Cedar Grove Elementary School who come for field trips and science studies. Pratt Road has the unofficial sidewalk to schools, malls, the rec centre and bus stops.
Before you pass judgement and accuse us of being uncaring, ask yourself if you would not have some concerns if you lived in the area given the same lack of information. Dig deep and really decide if you would like your children or grandchildren walking or riding their bikes down Pratt Road. Keep in mind, three areas already said, "not in my backyard" for a similar facility.
