This letter was sent to B.C. Premier John Horgan and Health Minister Adrian Dix.
It is with great interest that I have read the report by Seniors Advocate Isobel Mackenzie on the present situation of public not-for-profit versus private for-profit long-term care facilities for seniors in this province.
I was at the meeting in Sechelt years ago when you, Adrian Dix, brashly defended your position of moving forward with the for-profit Trellis facility despite the clear evidence of huge public opposition to it, and the pre-election promise.
This timely report spells out clearly why so many residents of this area want, deserve and are still asking for a publicly-run not-for-profit long-term senior care facility, as am I.
Your platform boasts, “Making life more affordable” and “improving the services you count on.”
As far as I am concerned, this means giving us a publicly funded and operated not-for-profit long-term senior facility that we so desperately need.
