Death and tax forms

Letters

Editor:

Whoever designed this year’s Canada tax form should be forced to sit with the thousands of frustrated seniors with dependents who cannot afford to put the whole business in the hands of accountants and be done with it.

As another April deadline looms, my cynical inner voice whispers, “This process was designed by politicians to make work for unemployed bean-counter buddies between elections. Just give the geezers enough forms and they will have another vegetarian day so we can all fly somewhere with warm beaches and great tacos.”

Perhaps more realistically, now that I’m in my ninth decade, it’s just the start of something worse – being carted off to a Vancouver care-home where the COVID-19 death rate runs between four and five per cent on a good day.
