I was just out sitting near our pond on this sunny, warm afternoon, with our giant Bernese/Pyrenees puppy lolling nearby, and it came to me how wonderful this all is. There is no place I would rather be. I understand that I am extremely fortunate and that many others don’t have this good fortune. However, it may be important to share this kind of awe and wonder, of which Rachel Carson wrote, in order that we might reconsider some of our priorities in this fast-paced, postmodern world of ours.

Seeing the ballet-like dance of the beautiful dragonflies, hearing the chorus of birdsong in the trees, experiencing the beauty of rhododendrons in bloom, watching the long, unmowed grass and buttercups blowing in the breeze, waiting to see if another small pond fish will swim by, feeling the wind on my face, and enjoying this true tranquility makes me understand all the more what is really important in life for me. My hope is that more in our wonderful, little community will take the time to marvel at what is around us and that they can embrace the joy that awaits only our observation and solitude.
