Crowd-source a solution

Letters

Editor:

So, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has stirred up a hornets’ nest.

I believe we could change the “stings” to “healing wings.”

First step: VCH cancels its contract with for-profit Trellis care provider.

Second step: VCH invites the protesters and other interested parties to create alternate plans that involve the community.

My belief in community involvement comes from the writer, Mark Winston, who wrote the book Bee Time. Winston has also created a new department at Simon Fraser University to teach “crowd-sourcing.” Crowd-sourcing is decision-making that draws on a group of diversified people who pool their wisdom to meet challenges creatively.

Winston also manages conflict-resolution through SFU’s Centre for Dialogue. Perhaps he could help the Sunshine Coast create alternate plans for care homes utilizing wisdom from the community and VCH.

We live in a wonderful place with many dedicated, caring people. Let’s utilize our resources in a positive way. We can do it.
