Crisis in long-term care

Unless you are involved with someone waiting to be admitted to a long-term care facility, you are unaware of the crisis concerning the abysmal lack of registered (approved) care facilities on the Coast.

My friend Arthur Prior was admitted to Christenson Village in Gibsons nearly three years ago. When his partner of 37 years had to be placed in long-term care, she found herself in Totem Lodge in Sechelt, some 15 miles away from Arthur. When Arthur died this month, with Lori just a few miles away, they had never been able to meet again!

Our Coast has steadily become a retirement community. However, the powers that be have not addressed our care needs. What we all should be doing (instead of just complaining) is writing to our MLA as well as those wanting to be our MLA and to the Ministry of Health.

This lack of long-term care is everyone's concern. Write those letters! Make yourselves heard!
