As a 30-year resident of the Sunshine Coast, I am disturbed with the increase in the coyote population. While heading to the 6:20 a.m. ferry on Saturday, June 5, we encountered one at the corner of Mason and Norwest Bay Road and one at Highway 101 and Norwest Bay. Each week there is a new sign up about a missing cat. Could coyotes be responsible?

I am concerned that if we do not address the issue soon, we will end up with a tragedy like the young lady killed by coyotes in Newfoundland last year. It seems there are those who want to take aim at the elk with a bow and arrow, so why not the coyotes?

Sure, live and let live some will say, then fine, teach the coyotes to leave pets alone. When I moved here to Wilson Creek, I never heard a coyote howl. Now we hear them in Creekside Park - the local tot park. Someone needs to take action, now.
