I was very surprised to see the present council upholding the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI)'s flawed position on the proposed changes to the Davis Bay beach area. Was there no previous consultation with council on what they thought were the priorities on the highway between the hospital and Davis Bay? It seems that the prime concerns of residents is the unsafe state of the highway onwards from Bay Road to the hospital.

Given that MOTI has no timetable for a proper bypass in the foreseeable future, this should be their number one priority. When I was on council 20 years ago, a bypass was being considered then, as Doug Reid and Mike Shanks, also aldermen at that time, will confirm.

In my opinion, the beach area should be left alone, and if they want to put a traffic light at Davis Bay Road or Bay Road to minimize conflict with highway traffic, fair enough, but don't let MOTI ruin the highway as they did in Gibsons.

Money is still being used as a carrot for compliance, and some of you still fall into this trap.
