Corporate manipulation

Letters

Editor:

After reading the article “Indoctrinated for the Green New Age,” I continued a couple pages ahead and there was a profound example of indoctrination. A young girl is pictured and what dominates the image is the logo of a large multi-national corporation emblazoned on the front of her sweater.

Perfect product placement.

A gargantuan company – The Gap Inc. in this case – with 2017 revenue of US$15.6 billion, gets purchasers to give them free advertising. Isn’t this backwards? Shouldn’t they pay us to advertise for them?

How has it happened that so many of us have been manipulated to think this is a good and healthy thing? Is this a reflection of the level our capitalist, consumer indoctrination has brought us to?
