Contrast in mayors

Letters

Editor:

As a 34-year resident of Sechelt, I have been fortunate to see many progressive improvements while retaining our small-town character. We have had some really good mayoral leadership over the years from dedicated people who were not afraid to take bold steps and endure the inevitable resulting criticism from those who did not agree with steps taken. Some that come to mind are:

Bud Koch with the purchase of Lot 7.

Earl Basse with the construction of the library and new city hall facility on Lot 7.

Cam Reid with the Community Forest.

John Henderson with the sewage treatment facility.

The incumbent mayor, three terms: nada, zip and zilch. And in this fourth year of the expiring term my net property tax increased 14 per cent with no apparent improvements. Hard to blame previous occupants of the chair four years in. Let’s not vote him a fourth term.
