Regarding the letter from a local neighbour who was clearly upset about the new homeless shelter in Gibsons (“No process, poor location,” Feb. 9). It saddens my heart that we do not help our community when it is in need. I looked for affordable housing for years. I need to have a roommate to afford the cost of our housing, and it is still a high price tag. Compassion is needed in this world and in this situation. These are people who need shelter from the outside elements. All humans need shelter! Have compassion for our community, it is clearly struggling. This is a global issue. There are homeless people all over our wealthy country needing support from their community.
This letter referred to the fact that there was no open discussion of opposition at the meeting. Understand, there was nowhere else that looked available in Lower Gibsons. This was a dire situation. People die from being outside all the time with nowhere to go. Life is not easy for anyone and some people need a helping hand.
Remember to smile.
