Comparing recycling sites

Your article on the recycling contract with Gibsons Recycling (Coast Reporter, Aug. 10) prompts these opinions.

First the contrast between the Gibsons facility and the relocated Sechelt facility could not be more stark. In Gibsons you can park right beside the huge recycling bins, and friendly staff are there to help. In Sechelt, a poorly-lit and badly-situated site contains the same awkward and ill-designed containers. Access to the Sechelt site is also difficult. One would think that recycling by residents was being discouraged.

Second, in any discussion about future recycling options and costs, full consideration should be given to the significant contributions made today by taxpayers who use these sites. Sorting and delivery is essentially donated by residents who take advantage of the fact that they are driving to town anyway. These substantial savings would be lost if a pick-up service similar to Sechelt's were adopted.

Full marks to Mr. Boyd for a great resource and long may he prosper. Perhaps the Sunshine Coast Regional District should ask him to quote on a similar site in Sechelt.
