Re: “Public Market asks to recover costs from Town,” Dec. 9.
I was choked to read that yet again the Gibsons Public Market is coming to the Town with hat in hand, this after getting the Town to empty the parks acquisition fund ($275,000) for what is clearly not a park. This time they want another $50,000 (they paid these Town costs and now want the money back) because of the Market’s cost overruns.
Could a large part of the Market’s problems be due to the apparent change in direction which saw the demolition of the original building rather than the originally stated plan to renovate the existing structure?
There are many deserving, dedicated non-profit community organizations working very hard to pay their bills and they don’t have the many advantages of the Gibsons Public Market.
Enough is enough already.
I don’t want to see the Town continually bailing out this project.
