Several municipalities in B.C. have offered subsidies for homeowners to install approved water catchment systems to collect the bountiful rainwater we experience in our Pacific Northwest fall and winter seasons. I would encourage the SCRD and the municipalities of Gibsons and Sechelt to do the same. There are many different models of these systems, from smaller barrels run in succession to large underground tanks, all fed from rain gutters. And we have a company that has all of these models available right here on the Sunshine Coast. Installation of water catchment systems when the rain is plentiful would allow the watering of gardens and orchards all summer long, reduce the perennial whining quotient, and be great for the environment.
