Can’t just say no

Editor:

I am reluctantly in favour of the proposed development at Gospel Rock in Gibsons. I am a resident of Elphinstone and any increase in traffic and density will impact me directly (I live beside the Mahan trail). Honestly, the idea of tons of vehicles driving past my house and disrupting this wildlife corridor is awful.

However, we have all heard about the extreme crisis in housing on the Sunshine Coast. For my friends and neighbours in Elphinstone who oppose this project, what is the alternative? You will all need to open up your homes to renters who are desperately seeking a place to live.

Of course, I know that Gospel Rock is not going to solve the affordability problem, but it will at least increase the number of homes available for rent and purchase on the Coast, hopefully at a cost that is not outrageous. We need to get creative with solutions for our community instead of fighting against change, or else we risk collapse altogether.
