Editor:
I read with some interest the article in the Nov. 18 issue of Coast Reporter about Mathew Wilson’s appointment as the Liberal MLA candidate for Sunshine Coast-Powell River.
While the article mentioned Matt’s father, Gordon Wilson, and his stepmother, Judi Tyabji, presumably because of their political careers, I missed reading an acknowledgement of Mathew’s mother, Liz Kool.
While Liz has not made her mark in the political arena, she has made a career of supporting families on the Sunshine Coast through her work in child care provision and, for the last eight years, as coordinator of Supported Child Development, a Sunshine Coast Community Services program that provides extra resources and child development support so that children with diagnosed disabilities or developmental delays can benefit and thrive within the child care setting. In this way, the program supports the principle of inclusion: the right of all children of diverse abilities to actively participate in their communities and that all children are supported and valued.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to acknowledge Liz Kool as another important influence in Matt Wilson’s political career.
