An open letter to the SCRD regarding the Coopers Green Hall:

We are residents of Halfmoon Bay, and stakeholders in the replacement of Coopers Green Hall. Our family donated several hundred dollars to the Halfmoon Bay Community Association Fund on the basis of the agreement signed between the HBCoA and the SCRD in 2014 to work toward replacing the hall. We have been kept informed of the progress being made, the plans developed, and when the SCRD, last July, was awarded a federal grant of up to $2 million to pay for up to 73 per cent of the project, we were certain the project would proceed soon.

Now new members of the SCRD want to go back to the beginning, disregarding the earlier agreement and all the work done by the HBCoA in the last number of years.

We are particularly annoyed by one director suggesting that the location of this hall might not benefit residents in other areas of the Coast. We have lived on the Coast since the 1980s and have taken advantage of many cultural events throughout the Coast, driving to Roberts Creek Hall, Madeira Park’s Community Hall, Gibsons’ Heritage Playhouse, wherever there was an event of interest. Of course we assumed our new hall would be a wonderful new addition to halls on the Coast to be used by all residents of the Coast.

We agree with Terry Knight. This latest decision of the SCRD is “wrong and redundant.” We want this project to proceed now, as planned.
