‘Big tent’ rewarded

Letters

Editor:

We heard much about a divided electorate during the municipal campaign, but it’s instructive to note that the council candidate in Gibsons who received the most votes was one of those who worked on creating a proverbial “big tent.”

Aleria Ladwig was the only council candidate who received support from a third-party sponsor who chose four particular candidates and was also put forward for consideration by a community association in quite a different selection of candidates.

It’s gratifying to know that, despite the despair over political tribalism, it’s still possible to appeal to a broad swath of voters by simply being practical, and as Ladwig put it, “taking a balanced approach.”
