The Economist on July 21 had an article about ports in the Horn of Africa.
Bab Al-Mandab Strait, which connects the Indian Ocean via the Gulf of Aden to the Red Sea (which leads to the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal) is only 16 miles wide yet transports 4.8 million barrels of oil daily. That is twice what we currently export from Vancouver in a month and would be about five times the proposed daily export from Vancouver if the pipeline expansion is completed.
Yet here we are in Canada with eco-terrorists objecting to one tanker per day in Georgia Strait, which is from 12 to 36 miles wide. Duh.
