Re: “Coast ‘literary matriarch’ Betty Keller honoured,” March 5.
There is no doubt that there will be many congratulations to Betty Keller for receiving the George Woodcock Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her many achievements.
I should like to add to that list of achievements.
It may not be known by your readers that, before the Heritage Playhouse finally provided a suitable performance venue, Betty Keller directed a number of Driftwood Players’ earlier productions. The locations for the performances included several school gymnasiums, the Gibsons United Church hall and even, most memorably, the upper floor of the Gibsons museum. In addition to her direction, Betty also made many of the costumes.
If Betty’s name was on the program, attendees knew they were in for a good show. This Lifetime Achievement award is a perfect recognition for a woman whose “enduring contributions” to society has benefited so many of us who call the Sunshine Coast home.
Thank you, Betty!
